an advanced peoplecare case studyDr. Singh was on an Interim Physicians assignment at a rural hospital in Upstate New York, when a 26-year-old Army Reserve veteran was admitted to the facility with a massive growth on his liver. The mass was dangerously large, causing internal bleeding and extreme pain.
Dr. Singh realized that the transfer would have to happen "Dr. Singh took it upon himself to do the right thing for his patient," said Katrina Smith, Senior Consultant at Interim Physicians in St. Louis. "He truly believed that this Army Reserve soldier who served his country should be treated instead of being released from the hospital without receiving care." When the transporter arrived and requested the patient's insurance, the nurses explained the situation and told them Dr. Singh would be covering the cost of transporation. The transporter was so touched by Dr. Singh's gesture that he decided to perform the transfer for free. He knew that if this doctor felt so strongly about this patient receiving life-saving care, that he would pay for it himself, that he, too, should show the same kindness and generosity. The transfer was completed and the physician who received the patient called Dr. Singh and thanked him personally for such a selfless act. In the end, the patient was stabilized and is expected to recover. Thanks to Dr. Singh, a patient who could have potentially died from a serious ailment received the care he would have otherwise not had access to due to lack of insurance. At Interim Physicians, that's what we call "Advanced PeopleCare."
