Ken Teufel, M.D.

Medical Director

Ken Teufel, M.D., has over 30 years of experience in the locum tenens field.

After several years in private practice, Dr. Teufel founded Physicians Relief Network to address the need for physicians in underserved rural areas of Texas. In 1989, PRN was acquired by Interim Physicians. Since then, Dr. Teufel has continued to work with Interim Physicians in the areas of risk management, quality assurance and physician-client relations.

In 1978, Dr. Teufel took a leave of absence from his private medical practice to work at the Ban Nam Yao refugee camp in Thailand. It was here that he became acutely aware of the relationship between poverty, culture, and health disparities. In 1999, he obtained a Master of Arts degree in intercultural relations from Antioch University and the Intercultural Communication Institute. In 1999, Dr. Teufel also introduced the undergraduate course in health communication at Texas State University, where he taught the course until 2007.

He is currently a member of the Advisory Council to the university’s Department of Communication Studies. He also maintains a close relationship with the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He was awarded his M.D. from UTMB in 1970.
