When a 25-bed hospital in rural New Hampshire suddenly found itself without a hospitalist nurse practitioner, they needed urgent help from an accomplished locum tenens agency. Interim Physicians went to work.
Within a week of securing the contract, our recruiting team not only found a candidate but arranged coverage for the next five months.
This wasn’t the first time Interim had stepped up for this client, a health system that manages multiple hospitals in New Hampshire. However, a leadership change at the client had slowed communication over the summer. Still, Interim’s account executive, Jaron Leake, persisted, routinely reaching out to keep the door open for when the client was ready.
A few weeks later, Jaron’s phone rang. The healthcare system had taken over a nearby community hospital that urgently needed a nurse practitioner.
Familiar Faces, Unusual Results
“Their new contact had worked with our president, Shawn Mullen, before,” Jaron recalled. “He reached out to Shawn, saying, ‘Hey, we’re taking over this program, and they need immediate help with a hospitalist. They needed us to fill almost half of October and all of November, half of January and February.’”
Jaron briefed Shawn and scheduled an introductory call with the client. Together, they knew the Interim Physicians team could meet the challenge.
“We set the expectations right away,” Jaron explained. “We told them, ‘If we need to move quickly, here’s how we do it.’ And they were all on board.”
With clear expectations in place, Jaron worked closely with the client and Interim’s recruiters to find hospitalist nurse practitioners who could step in at a moment’s notice. Constant communication was key to their success.
“We worked closely with the hospital’s scheduler, going week by week to align their provider’s shifts with our candidates’ availability,” Jaron said. “The communication was spot-on. I made it clear: if they had questions, they could reach out to me anytime, and I’d do the same to them. That’s what we were going to do to make this a success and avoid any mistakes.”
The health system had worked with other locums agencies before, but Interim’s consistent communication was a breath of fresh air. With our deep network of locum tenens advanced practice providers, it was only a matter of time before the right fit was found.
Three Candidates in One Week
“Within a week, we had three candidates lined up, ready to cover their entire schedule for those five months,” Jaron said.
The client was set to take over the hospital in October 2024, but with that came the challenge of filling the looming nurse practitioner vacancy. Thanks to Interim, they could step into the role with confidence.
“Although we found three who can fill that spot, most likely it’s only going to be one provider. We found one who lives about an hour from the worksite, and they love her—she’s their top candidate,” Jaron explained. “But we’re still credentialing three to make sure everything is filled and stays filled.”
Impressed with the quick turnaround and quality of providers, the client reached out again—this time to fill a hospitalist vacancy at a sister hospital in Southeastern Maine. Within 48 hours, Interim found a candidate, and the client approved the hospitalist soon afterward.
Delivering Quality, Every Time
Interim’s ongoing success with this healthcare system speaks to their commitment to providing fast, reliable solutions. Whether handling urgent staffing needs or fostering open communication, Interim Physicians consistently rises to the occasion.
“The contact who took over this responsibility highlighted the difference between how we’ve communicated with them versus what other agencies she’s worked with have done in the past,” Jaron noted. “She told me that they really appreciated what we were doing and the types of candidates we provided. It was unlike any other agency they had worked with before.”
For Interim Physicians, this success underscores their dedication to quality service and effective communication, ensuring healthcare facilities have the support they need, exactly when they need it.
