The tenth annual National Locum Tenens Week has arrived! From August 10 to 14, 2026, the Interim Physicians team is recognizing the locum tenens physicians and advanced practice providers who bring skill, adaptability, and dependable care to every assignment.
National Locum Tenens Week gives the staffing community a dedicated opportunity to celebrate clinicians who practice where they’re most needed. Their assignments may be temporary, but their contributions reach patients and communities across the country.
Locum tenens isn’t exclusively a solution for temporary vacancies. More than 55,000 doctors accepted locum opportunities last year, representing over 5% of all US physicians. Roughly one-third of American physicians have pursued the practice alternative at some point in their careers. In addition, 81% of healthcare facilities used locums last year, demonstrating how integrated the staffing model has become in healthcare infrastructure.
